New NastyNasty Mix: Lazerbrain
One of my fave producers for the past few years just dropped this incredible mix, which follows hot on the heels of the awesome “Lazersoul” mix he did a few years back.
This is just unreal!

Feeding People @ SXSW 2012
“Feeding People performed marvelously their brand of psychedelic/space rock a la Amon Düül II meets Janis Joplin and Syd Barrett fused into one frighteningly powerful cosmic entity. A lot of bands can have a tendency to sound the same, especially considering the seemingly constant succession of performances confronted with during SXSW, but some are different. Feeding People is...

Get NastyNasty on Valentine's Day...
“The ideal dubstep track to start off your Valentines Day, “Moan” by NastyNasty is complete with his signature up-pitched vocals and immaculate melodic overtones that only NastyNasty could possibly create. Phenomenally emotional synths drift lazily through the mix, intricately embellished with masterful vocal sampling and staggeringly delightful melodic detail. You can always...

Big Baby Gandhi and Hot Sugar Team Up for Mixtape
“Two of our favorite indie New York artists have officially joined forces on “Hi It’s Me, Baby.” The track features rhymes from Big Baby Gandhi, who you might know for his ill Big Fucking Baby mixtape released via Das Racist’s Greedhead Music last November. And on the beat, it’s Nick Koenig, aka Hot Sugar, a dude who loves blending crunchy boom-bap beats with...

Young Vipers Collab with The Roots on 'Sleep'
For the past several weeks The Roots have been releasing video vignettes featuring song from their new studio album, undun, out in December on Island Def Jam. This week, our own Hot Sugar and Aaron Livingston, aka Young Vipers, have contributed a song to the album and the last vignette in the series, called “Sleep.” The song uses the Young Vipers original track as the soundbed to...

Stussy 'Make Beats' with Nosaj Thing + GLK
This is definitely ‘normal’ behavior for these guys, but it’s a treat to that Stussy got video of the pair (along with Pollyn) geeking out on their OP-1’s from the Swedish tech company Teenage Engineering. It looks like an uber design-savvy toy, but also pretty powerful pocket synthesizer that is currently on a number of electronic producer’s ‘must buy’...

Hot Sugar Talks Ass
“Hot Sugar is one of my favorite producers in music today. The New York-based beatmaker, real name Nick Koenig, creates super summery, organic instrumental hip-hop that is perfect for blasting on a sweltering July day. His recording process, an inventive method he calls Associative Music, culls sounds from our everyday lives to weave an incredible canvas of sound and texture that just...

Feeding People in LA Record
“At one level, this is garage rock … But the music on Peace, Victory and the Devil breaks out of those constraints, not as if it’s struggling but as if it’s shrugging off any concern for rules, as if it’s easy to pioneer a new sound.
Whether [Jones] is channeling spirits, or whether Feeding People is simply a band of spirited musicians all pulling together to...

Gaslamp Killer Slays Magic 8-Ball
Here’s a review from the San Francisco show at Mezzanine:
“I avoided the electro-loving crowd on the balcony as the long-haired Gaslamp Killer established himself as “someone I need to listen to.” His set was full of that gritty bass that the speakers at the Mezz are built for. As soon as he started playing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” while drumming on his iPad , I knew this...

Nosaj Thing: Coachella 2011
“Nosaj Thing turned the festival’s Gobi tent into an aural igloo to weather Coachella’s blizzard of white noise. In the middle of his searing set, it became clear that Nosaj may be the next one from L.A.’s beat scene to make it big.” — LA Weekly

Thom Yorke @ Low End Theory
Cool write up and video from Theo Jemison on the much buzzed-about Low End a few weeks back…

Jogger Made Your New Favorite Video
For an electronic band slash laptop and effects duo this video is so metal. I love what I think is the band doing the black metal adlibs over the top of their own track, which is also pretty mental (not metal). It makes me want to go back to high school and befriend that kid that sat next to me in history class.
Hot Sugar is Truant
Nick Koenig (aka Hot Sugar) is a multi-instrumental beat genius. While he is just getting started when it comes to his Hot Sugar artist profile, he’s been creating (or should we say re-creating) samples for others for some time. His sample magic efforts aren’t lost on us here in this video (which you may have noticed blast across the web late last year) where he creates a new beat...

Get Glitch Mob Remixes and Donate for Haiti
This is a project Truant had a hand in last year, that is just released and for a good cause. The Glitch Mob guys decided to tap some of the best and brightest beat makers to remix their debut album. Folks like Beats Antique, Jogger, King Britt, EPROM and more deconstructed songs from the album, Drink The Sea, and The Glitch Mob is selling them to help rebuild Haiti which is still a big issue....
Nosaj Thing x Aalto Audio-visual Collaboration
Last year, Nosaj Thing traveled to Prague to play at the Lunchmeat Festival. He was paired with Aalto, a budding local VJ, and the result was this mini-doc on the process. Some stunning photos over here too. Stay tuned for the next evolution of the live visual show.

Resident Advisor speaks to The Gaslamp Killer
“It’s the beats man. That’s it, it’s the same as it was back then, as it is now—the craziest, freakiest music. We play beat music, and that includes rock and funk and soul and jazz and hip-hop and jungle and trip-hop and Dirty South, and a little house every now and then, and it’s happening. Shafiq Husayn came and played a bunch of disco and house records. Prince...

Nosaj Thing in LA Times Magazine
“To lovers of ambitious and enchanting dance music, the sound of Los Angeles right now is Low End. Low End Theory, that is—the weekly club night in Lincoln Heights that has brought together a multiracial crew of innovative artists making laptop-based music with the inventiveness of jazz, the spiritual effect of the best New Age and the cool of classic L.A. hip-hop. A Decade of Flying Lotus, Mixed by GLK
Flying Lotus has had a remarkable year, and an even more amazing decade. His 2008 debut album Los Angeles has definitely helped put LA’s beat head community on the map, but the guy has literally layed waste to hip-hop, electronic and alternative beat genres across the spectrum for 10 years. Gaslamp Killer gives his props, lacing together tidbits of the known and unknown FlyLo lexicon to...
